Acrobat products provide a way for you to add, remove, open, and save file attachments. However, attachments represent a potential security risk because they can contain malicious content, open other dangerous file, or launch applications. Certainly most users do perceive certain file types as dangerous, including s .bin, .exe, .bat, and so on.

To mitigate the risk inherent in attachments, you should:

• Know what the content is and from where it originated.
• Be aware of dangerous file types and how the application manages those types. Adobe applications maintain Black lists and white lists which control application behavior.
• Prevent attachments from opening other files and launching applications. This is the default behavior.

Basic configuration¶

Note that the settings described below work in tandem; that is, if any of bAllowOpenFile, bSecureOpenFile, and tBuiltInPermsList are set to prevent the opening of an attachment, then the attachment type won’t open (or all attachments depending on the setting).

Attachments and 3rd party apps¶

bAllowOpenFile specifies whether to open non-PDF attachments in their native application. If can be set by checking Preferences > Trust Manager > Attachment panel > Allow opening of Non-PDF file attachments with external applications.

bSecureOpenFile specifies whether to allow opening attachments which are not PDF. There is no corresponding user interface item.

Setting file type permissions¶

The default application behavior for file types in the attachment list can be modified manually as needed. New file extensions can be added to the list, existing ones removed, and the behavior changed for file types already in the list.

Permissions settings are as follows:

• 0: User is warned that the file may be unsafe and is given two choices: open or permanently set the behavior to Prohibited.
• 1: User is warned that the file may be unsafe and is given three choices: open or permanently set the behavior to Allowed or Prohibited.
• 2: Always open this file type.
• 3: This file type does not open and a warning message appears.

Windows

Modifying the registry settings in HKLM requires administrator rights. To modify file attachments permissions: Download after effects cracked version.

1. On 64 bit machines, navigate to HKLMSOFTWAREWOW6432NodePoliciesAdobe(productname)(version)FeatureLockdowncDefaultLaunchAttachmentPerms.
2. Double click the tBuiltInPermList value.
3. Edit or add an extension and value in the format of .extension>:#. For example, zip:1. This is a simple, pipe-separated list (e.g. doc docx dv emf ). Refer to the actual preference values for a list of current settings.

The ordering of the entries is irrelevant, but it is important that the list has no duplicate entries.

Macintosh

To edit the registry to modify the default behavior of file attachments in Macintosh:

Click on replace if it asks for it. Once the installation is complete, open the folder and copy all the files from there and paste into the directory where you have installed the game. Download harry potter and the half blood prince game for mac. For example if you have installed game in “My Computer Local Disk C Program files “Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince” then paste those files in this directory. Wait for it to install the game on your pc.

1. Locate the FeatureLockDown file and edit it in a text editor. This file is normally located in Applications/<application><versionnumber><productname>/<application>[versionnumber]Professional/Contents/MacOS/Preferences.
2. Hold the Ctrl key and click the application file in Applications/AdobeAcrobat<productname>.
3. Choose Show Package Contents.
4. Navigate to Contents > MacOS > Preferences.
5. Locate the FeatureLockDown file in the Preferences folder, and open it in a text editor.
6. Find BuiltInPermList[/s.
7. Edit or add an extension and value in the format of <.extension>:<0-3>. For example, .zip:1.

Linux

To edit the registry to modify the default behavior of file attachments in Linux:

1. Navigate to <installlocation>/Adobe/<applicationandversion/Reader/globalPrefs.
2. Open AttachmentPerms in a text editor.
3. Edit or add an extension and value in the format of <.extension>:<0-3>. For example, .zip:1.

Adding Custom Attachment Extensions

To add custom extensions, add your own file extension entries to the very end of the list. The method is the same on both Windows and Macintosh. Use the following format for each custom extension:

.FILEEXTENSION:PERMVALUE

For example, to add the extension .`ext` with a value of Always Allowed, you would add:

.ext:2

Because the registry list could grow over time and users do not have direct access to the lists through the user interface, resetting the list to its original state may result in the highest level of security.

To reset the black and white lists:

1. Choose Preferences > Trust Manager.
2. In the PDF File Attachments panel, choose Restore.

Allowing attachments to launch applications¶

The Trust Manager enables users to control whether or not non-PDF attachments can open with other applications. By default, this option is enabled so that common file types such as .doc (not on the application’s black list) can be easily opened in the appropriate application.

To set attachment preferences:

1. Choose Preferences > Trust Manager.

2. Configure Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications:

   • Checked: Default. The application uses its stored black list to determine whether Acrobat should let the attachment launch an application action, so the attachment can be opened.
   • Unchecked: Clicking or opening an attachment will never result in launching it’s associated viewing application. Use this option if a higher level of security is needed.

Modifying permissions on-the-fly¶

Users can indirectly manage the registry list of which file types can be opened and saved. In other words, the list in Attachment black list can be extended one at a time as each attached file is opened. Administrators can modify the registry.

To add a file to a black or white list, attach the new file type to a document and then try to open it:

1. Acrobat: Choose Document > Attach a File and attach a file type not on the black or white list (e.g. yfile.xyz)

2. Open the file by highlighting it in the Attachments pane and choosing Open.

3. When the Launch Attachment dialog appears, choose one of the following:

   • Open this file: Opens the files without changing the registry list.
   • Always allow opening files of this type: Adds the file type to the white list and prevents future warnings.
   • Never allow opening files of this type: Adds the file type to the black list and does not open it.

4. Choose OK.

Black lists and white lists¶

Acrobat products store a list of some of these good (whitelisted) and bad (blacklisted) file types in the registry. Application behavior is controlled by the file type’s membership in a list:

• File types on the white list: These can be attached and may be opened or saved if the file extension is associated with the requisite program.
• File types on the black list: These can be attached, but a warning dialog appears stating that they cannot be saved or opened from the application. No actions are available for these files.
• File types not on any list: These can be attached without a warning dialog. Trying to open or save them invokes a dialog which allows the user to perform the action just once or to add them to the good type (white) list or bad type (black) list.

You can attach file types that are on the black list because a document recipient may have a less restrictive black list than you (the sender). While the recipient may be able to open the file, the attacker will not be able to execute or open it from within the application. Attempting to open a prohibited file type results in a warning that the action is not allowed.

1. Say Something Niceby Erin Rodman.

After she catches her boyfriend cheating, Liv goes on a social media tirade that lands her in court for slander, and the judge forces her to make amends by composing one positive comment for every negative comment she posted, while under the supervision of a reclusive mediator also on the rebound from a failed relationship.

Why it made our list: This one is based on a true story and we love not only how interesting it is and ripe for romantic and dramatic complications, but how relevant it is in today’s age of the online hate mob.

2. Voicemails for Isabelleby Leah McKendrick.

A low-level TV writer struggles to cope with the death of her little sister by continuing to leave her voicemails chronicling the shitshow that is dating in LA. When the phone number is unknowingly transferred, a cocky New York real estate agent begins receiving the hilarious and confessional voicemails and feels pulled to California to find this stranger he feels intimately close to.

Why it made our list: This logline kind of switches perspective at the end and could have actually been written from the perspective of the real estate agent. Either way it’s a novel idea and could be a great movie.

3. Atlanta on FireAdam Morrison.

The true story of Leo Frank, a young, Jewish businessman who, due to widespread anti-Semitism/the KKK in the post Civil War South, was wrongfully accused, tried, and convicted of murdering a 13-year-old factory worker, Mary Phagan.

Why it made our list: This little-known true story would make a remarkable but heartwrenching movie. There are quite a few true stories on 2019’s Black List which is a testament as to how powerful they can be (while giving you a story right off the bat).

4. Apexby Stephen Vitale.

A mysterious loner heads to Muscle Beach in 1985 to pursue a career as a competitive bodybuilder. Struggling to transform his physique, he unleashes a darker side of himself as he descends into madness.

Why it made our list: The anti-hero in this logline conjures up images of Lou Bloom, Travis Bickle and Arthur Fleck set within the world of professional bodybuilding. Great stuff.

5. 10-31 by Peter Gamble and Ian Shorr.

A young woman takes her niece and nephew trick-or-treating and discovers a note inside a candy wrapper that says there’s a killer loose on her block.

Why it made our list: Love the set-up of this slasher movie: a young woman and her niece and nephew being hunted by a killer during what should be an innocent night of fun. The juxtaposition of the two is really unique.

6. Waywardby Andrew Zilch.

The wife of a megachurch pastor seeks atonement after she and her lover kill an attacker in self-defense, but don’t report it out of fear of exposing their affair.

Why it made our list: This logline expertly sets up Act 1 of the movie: 1. the moment the couple is attacked and 2. their decision not to report their killing of the attacker. We’re left hanging wondering what could happen next and wanting to know more.

7. Fire Harvest by Kevin McMullin.

George runs a struggling farm where he cares for his terminally ill wife, Alice. Everything changes when he decides to bring home an orphaned baby he found out in the field. The child’s presence begins to unearth buried secrets while engulfing the family in a series of supernatural events.

Why it made our list: While this concept could be accused of trying to pack in too much—the buried secrets and the supernatural events—it’s a great play on the horror formula of a child disrupting the family home.

8.Fire Ascent by Colin Bannon.

Two years after a free solo accident nearly kills Hillary Hall, she enlists the help of her old climbing partners to document her comeback—the first ascent of [a] 4,000 foot [sic] rock wall in rural China. During the harrowing climb, Hillary struggles with her inner demons and supernatural forces, as it slowly becomes clear that this mountain does not want to be conquered.

Why it made our list: What makes this logline stand out is the fact “this mountain does not want to be conquered.” It’s kind of buried at the end of the logline here making us assume at first that the story’s a normal mountain climbing drama, but, nevertheless, it’s a great idea.

9. The Repossessionby Megan Amram.

Twenty years after a failed exorcism, a meek young woman becomes unlikely friends with the foul-mouthed demon that possessed her as a child.

Why it made our list: You can’t help but smile after reading this logline. It’s so original and irreverent it just had to make the list. This could be a hilarious black comedy.

10. Grandma Wants to Dieby Patrick Cadigan.

When Ben is left footing the bill for his own wedding just weeks before the big day, he’s forced to make a deal with his estranged grandmother Minnie. She’ll give him the money if he signs the papers for her assisted suicide. Ben gladly agrees, only to unearth Minnie’s final agenda before she departs… destroy the wedding from the inside and seemingly ruin Ben’s life.

Why it made our list: Last but definitely not least, this concept is pure genius. Our only quibble would be the logline itself could just end after the second sentence: “She’ll give him the money if he signs the papers for her assisted suicide.” The info about destroying the wedding feels superfluous but, hey, it’s a fantastic set-up either way.

What do all these loglines and Black List Scripts have in common?

Like all great loglines, these are original, interesting and make you say things like “I wish I’d thought of that,” and “I would watch that movie.”

Each of these concepts helps you see the movie. The genre is clear. The protagonist is clear. And the conflict is clear.

If you take a look at the logline to your own script, does it do the same? It can be hard to step back and look at your own work objectively but it’s a vital skill to learn if you want to get your script on next Black List.

Hollywood Black List Scripts vs. the Black List website.

Please bear in mind that the Black List we’ve discussed in this post is a completely different entity from the Black List website which Leonard Franklin set up years later.

The Black List website is a site where aspiring screenwriters can (for a fee) upload their screenplays. Industry people who’ve also opted into the site, can then read and vote on them.

This online voting system means the writer is able to track their script’s progress as it either falls or climbs up the rankings. It’s a good way of tracking the progress of your writing.

Obviously, though, your main aim should be to get your script on the original Black List that circulates Hollywood.
